LearnCentral Community Platform™ Expands to Include Option to Add Customization, Privacy, and Control
Elluminate, Inc., the leader in web, audio, video and social networking solutions that support 21st century teaching, learning, and collaboration, announced today the general availability of the newest additions to the LearnCentral Community Platform™, which includes both public and private versions of the company's popular social learning network for education.
LearnCentral Community Platform enhances the Elluminate Learning Suite™ by adding an optional component for informal learning and social networking, where educators can find and connect with colleagues worldwide, organize and share content, hold real-time meetings and events, and much more.
LearnCentral Portal is an entry-level offering that provides a customized, branded "front door” into the public LearnCentral community, providing a quick, inexpensive, yet powerful, way of exposing educators to a social learning network without the hassles of upfront configuration and ongoing community management. LearnCentral Private Community offers the same customized look and feel plus highly configurable privacy options that enable the community manager to choose which, if any, resources are made available in the public LearnCentral network.
With LearnCentral Private Community, customers can choose to have their own completely private, walled-off LearnCentral community in which all discussions, content, member profiles, and groups are kept completely private, with access privileges only granted to the customers' members. As an alternative, LearnCentral Private Community customers can choose to have a hybrid community in which the members and/or community manager can choose which content, groups, and discussions are made available in the public LearnCentral community.
LearnCentral Private Community features include:
- Custom branding and skinning
- Use of existing domain URL
- Content access control with flexible privacy settings
- Content management and bulk data import
- Activity reporting to determine content use
- Integration with Elluminate technology
To help customers leverage their technology investments, Elluminate Professional Services offers implementation packages and customized services to help customers build their LearnCentral Portal or Private Community. For more information, contact consulting@elluminate.com.

"Private Community users can incorporate any and all content from the general purpose LearnCentral, define who has access to their content, and decide what, if any, content can be used universally,” said Steve Hargadon, Elluminate social learning consultant. "This is a tremendous advantage for those who want to maintain control over proprietary content and valuable intellectual property. What's more, organizations can provide their educators with the ability to easily and securely make the peer contacts that are so essential to professional development and teacher retention.”
"Today, a wide variety of academic institutions and other organizations are embracing the inclusion of personal learning networks in the education process, connecting educators worldwide, encouraging peer support, facilitating informal learning, and providing sustainable professional development,” said Maurice Heiblum, president, Elluminate.
