NuEarth Corporation (Pink Sheets: NUEC) ("NuEarth"), a manufacturer and marketer of "Clean & Green" products and technology, today announced that the company''s Laboratory and Research Division "TerraSolv SA" has complied with a request to released a white paper on the use of the company''s NuSoil and AquaSolv Technology to the United Nations; Chinese Academy of Geological Science and the China University of Geoscience. The paper focuses on the use of NuSoil and AquaSolv products in reducing the effects of Dust and Desertification on a Local and Global market using these technologies. The market exposure for these types of product usage is estimated in excess of $230 Billion USD over the next 10 years, according to the United Nations Institute for Natural Resources.
"In the early Spring of each year, large dust storms sweep across Central Asia, bringing millions of tons of dust and sand from the Gobi desert and depositing this in China, Korean and Japan. A Global effect of climate change known as desertification is advancing the Gobi and currently threatens more than 400 million people in several Chinese provinces. The financial toll to the Chinese economy is estimated at over $6.5 billion per year and growing," stated Dr. Yoseph Bar-Cohen – Head Research Fellow, TerraSolv SA.
But desertification is not limited to China and it is fast becoming a major global problem in Africa and South America as well. In Africa, demand for water has shrunk several major Lakes by 95 percent since the 1980s, leaving only sand and scrub brush. In Kazakhstan, desertification is responsible for nearly 50 percent of the Country''s cropland being abandoned since 1980. The Sahara is advancing at the rate in excess of 3,510 square kilometers per year into Ghana and Nigeria. Rapid population growth has put enormous pressure on agricultural systems that have been pushed beyond sustainable farming practices in order to handle the demands. As a result, a huge amount of marginal land has been converted to pasture or farmland, overgrazed or over farmed, and now rural populations are forced to watch their topsoil blow away.
According to the United Nations Institute for Natural Resources in Africa, by 2025 Africa may only be able to feed 25 percent of its population, and many countries in the Mediterranean basin could face a future of significant food and water shortages as climate change increases and desertification advances. Across the world, continued climate change will increase problems where poor land use and population pressure is already putting a strain on fragile eco-systems.
NuSoil and AquaSolv are non-polluting organic fertilizer and soil treatment technologies that are having an extraordinary effect on the development and reclamation of marginal to poor quality soils. This paper identifies NuSoil and AquaSolv technologies for soil reclamation that could contribute to successfully slowing the advancement of desertification. Proposed for use in the scheduled launch of the Chinese governments "Gobi Forest Belt" projects. NuSoil and AquaSolv would help stabilize soil conditions and help create a proposed forest belt stretching 2,800 miles (4,500 kilometers) to block the advancing sands of the Gobi desert and diminish the effect of the sandstorms. The collective "Gobi Forest Belt" projects are estimated at $5.1 Billion with NuSoil and AquaSolv usage representing less than 2.36% of the overall costs of the proposed projects.
The African Union is seeking support and funding for a similar "Green Wall" to hold back the Sahara in Algeria. Officials hope that the inauguration of the 250,000 hectare Taghit National Park will slow the advance of the sands and promote the redevelopment of marginal soils into productive and sustainable eco-systems. The paper presents evidence that by using NuSoil and AquaSolv technologies in the soil reclamation process, an average carbon sequestration value of approximately 300 tonnes per hectare, and a CO2 sequestration value of approximately 1100 tonnes per hectare can be produced. This represents approximately a $1,500 per hectare carbon credit benefit to the project development Countries. The cost of using NuSoil and AquaSolv Technology is estimated at less than $350-400 USD per hectare, giving the Project Development Countries a net $1,100 USD carbon credit benefit per hectare.
