PEKING (dpa-AFX) - LED chips and components manufacturer SemiLEDs Corp. (LEDS), Thursday, reported a wider loss for the second quarter, hurt mainly by lower revenues and higher operating expenses.
The Taiwan-based company reported a second-quarter net loss attributable to common stockholders of $7.11 million or $0.26 per share, compared to a net loss of $1.29 million or $0.05 per share last year.
Adjusted loss per share for the quarter attributable to common stockholders widened to $0.22 per share from $0.03 per share. On average, seven analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to lose $0.25 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues for the quarter dropped 21 percent to $7.91 million from $9.96 million in the prior-year quarter. Seven analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $7.41 million for the quarter.
Looking ahead, the company expects third-quarter net loss attributable to SemiLEDs stockholders in the range of $7.5 million to $7 million or a loss of $0.27 to $0.25 per share. Revenues for the third quarter are anticipated in the range of $7.9 million to $8.9 million. Analysts currently expect the company to lose $0.22 per share for the quarter, with revenues of $8.37 million.
