WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - VMware Inc. (VMW) reported that its second-quarter net income was $191.7 million, or $0.44 per share, compared to $220.2 million, or $0.51 per share in the previous year quarter.
Non-GAAP net income for the quarter was $295.53 million, or $0.68 per share, up from $235.27 million, or $0.55 per share in the year-ago quarter. On average, 37 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.66 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues for the quarter rose 22 percent to $1.12 billion from $921.21 million in the comparable quarter last year, while thirty five analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $1.12 billion for the quarter.
For the third quarter 2012, revenues are expected to be in the range of $1.11 and $1.15 billion. Thirty Five analysts have consensus revenue estimate of $1.14 billion for the quarter.
Annual 2012 revenues are now expected to be in the range of $4.54 billion and $4.64 billion, an increase of 20.5% to 23.0% from 2011. Previously, the company had expected revenues to be in the range of $4.53 and $4.63 billion, an increase of 20% to 23% from 2011. Thirty nine analysts have consensus revenue estimate of $4.59 billion for fiscal 2012.
