TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - TDK Corp will build another facility at its production site in Kitaibaraki, Ibaraki Prefecture, to double output capacity for organic electroluminescent (OEL) panels by 2006, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.
The newspaper said in its online edition that TDK will invest 3.5 bln yen in the 1200 sq m plant. The company will build a production line that uses vapor deposition to put organic materials on panels.
TDK currently has capacity which equivalent of 150,000 20 x 79mm panels for usedin car audio systems.
The newspaper said the line will mainly produce widely-used passive-type panels, but will also make small quantities of higher-resolution active-type OEL displays which are being co-developed with Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co.
Full production of the active-type displays is expected to begin in 2007.
