BEIJING (AFX) - TCL-Thomson Electronics Corp (TTE) - TCL Corp's 67-33 venture with Thomson SA of France - is moving to take over sales activities currently handled by Thomson SA, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a company statement.
The newspaper said the move will give TTE greater control over the marketing of Thomson's TV brands, including Thomson in Europe and RCA in the US.
TTE has tentatively agreed to take over sales and marketing for its TVs in North America and Europe and absorb Thomson's world-wide design group, which handles product packaging, the paper said.
Thomson and TCL last July shifted nearly all of their TV-manufacturing facilities into the joint venture, while Thomson remained responsible for marketing and sales in North America and Europe and TCL handled China and Asia.
TTE, TCL and Thomson are trying to reach a definitive agreement on the change of duties by the middle of next month, the paper said.
