ROLLS-ROYCE GROUP PLC: Re Agreement |
18 July, 2005
ITP JOINS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 1000 PROGRAMME
Spain's Industria de Turbo Propulsores, S. A. (ITP), was today confirmed as the
sixth risk and revenue sharing partner (RRSP) on the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000
engine being developed for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The announcement takes RRSP investment share on the Trent 1000 to 35 per cent.
This new agreement means that ITP is now an RRSP on all five versions of the
Trent engine which are either in service or under development. ITP is 47 per
cent owned by Rolls-Royce, in partnership with Sener Aeronáutica.
Under the terms of the agreement, ITP will again be responsible for assembly of
the low pressure turbine (LPT) module and for the majority of the manufacture
and design work for the LPT.
Charles Cuddington, Managing Director - Airlines, at Rolls-Royce, said: "World
class partners, such as ITP, provide us with expertise which will contribute to
the significant improvements in efficiency and cost of ownership of the Trent
1000.
"This new agreement builds on the success of our previous partnerships with
ITP, which has provided us with excellent support on all our large engine
programmes."
Ignacio Mataix, General Manager at ITP, added: "We are delighted to be
extending our long and successful relationship with Rolls-Royce. The signing of
this agreement consolidates our position as the key supplier of low pressure
turbines for all Rolls-Royce large engines."
ITP and Rolls-Royce have been working together for some time on design of the
Trent 1000 low pressure turbine. Today's announcement marks final contract
signature.
NOTE TO EDITORS
1. ITP joins Goodrich Corporation, Hamilton Sundstrand, Kawasaki Heavy
Industries (KHI), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Carlton Forge Works
as Trent 1000 RRSPs.
2. The first flight of the Trent 1000 on a flying test bed is scheduled for
the first quarter of 2007. The engine will be certified by the
airworthiness authorities later that year and enter service in 2008.
3. The Boeing 787's launch customer, ANA (All Nippon Airways) of Japan,
announced last October that it had chosen the Trent 1000 to power its fleet
of 50 Dreamliners. The first Trent 1000 order had earlier been placed by
Air New Zealand for two aircraft.
4. By the time the Trent 1000 enters service, existing engines in the Trent
family will have accumulated 35 million flying hours.
5. The Trent 1000 is the fifth member in the series, which entered service ten
years ago with the Trent 700 on the A330. Other variants are the Trent 800,
which powers the Boeing 777, the Trent 500, matched with the
ultra-long-range A340-500 and -600 airliners, and the Trent 900, launch
engine on the A380, due to enter service next year.
6. Comprehensive TotalCare contracts are part of a broad range of aftermarket
services available to support the Trent 1000. The engine will feature the
latest predictive maintenance software designed to monitor engine health
and anticipate overhaul requirements.
