Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. (ST&R) announced today
that internationally recognized attorney Zhaokang Jiang has been
appointed a Member of the Firm and Partner in Charge of ST&R's Asian
expansion. Mr. Jiang will work with multinational clients in resolving
customs and international trade issues, increasing business
opportunities throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and formulating
sourcing strategies that take advantage of international trade
programs.
"ST&R has assisted clients in their Asian business endeavors for 30 years, mostly with a focus on exporting to the United States," said ST&R Managing Partner Thomas G. Travis. "Now, with significant growth in many of the region's domestic markets, we see offering advice on inbound shipments into Asia as the next logical step. Mr. Jiang has been tapped to oversee the firm's Asian expansion because he brings a unique perspective from his tenure as a Chinese lawyer, a former PRC customs official, and a U.S. international trade attorney, as well as his experiences as regional customs counsel for a major multinational company."
As Deputy Director of Law and Regulations for China Customs, Mr. Jiang led the panel for customs law revision and drafted the regulations on customs enforcement of intellectual property rights. He also advised the Chinese government on customs modernization, implementation of the customs valuation code, and customs law and regulation reform consistent with World Trade Organization rules. He has counseled U.S. multinational corporations on matters pertaining to Asian trade and managed trade compliance activities throughout Southeast Asia for a leading electronics and transportation corporation.
ST&R will open an office in Beijing, China, later this year. This office will function as the firm's Asian headquarters and will service clients throughout the region.
Mr. Jiang can be reached at Zjiang@strtrade.com, by phone at 011-86-13901291150, or by fax at (202) 330-5990.
