Miraval, Life in Balance(R), named in readers' polls as
both the #1 destination spa in America by Conde Nast and the #1
destination spa in the world by Travel & Leisure for the third
consecutive year, today announced that John Vanderslice will become
Chief Executive Officer, taking over the day-to-day operations of
Miraval.
Vanderslice comes to Miraval from Club Med, where he served as President and CEO for their Americas Region. He was responsible for six national and international business offices, as well as for resorts throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Brazil and the United States.
Prior to Club Med, Vanderslice served as Senior Vice President of Concept Development and in other positions for the Triarc Restaurant Group, a holding company whose subsidiaries include Arby's and TJ Cinnamons. Vanderslice also worked for Kraft Foods for many years, managing several cereal and beverage brands.
"Miraval is at the forefront of the health and wellness community, which continues to gain global attention and pervade mainstream culture as people today lead ever more complex, stressful lives" states Vanderslice. "The Miraval brand offers the opportunity to make positive additions that enable people to lead more balanced lives. I'm very excited to be leading Miraval's crusade to create a revolutionary company that provides solutions for life's choices."
Vanderslice is married with a 15 year-old daughter and a 9 year-old son. He enjoys running, tennis and golf. A part of his childhood was spent in the Phoenix area, and he is happy to be back in a desert environment.
Revolution LLC was launched in April 2005 by Steve Case, the former Co-Founder of AOL. Revolution is seeking to become the world's leader in providing consumers with more choices to empower themselves to build balanced and mindful lives. Together with a newly formed management team at Miraval brimming with a diverse and complementary set of experiences, Case seeks to expand Miraval's mission of mindfulness from a location to a lifestyle, from a vacation to a way of life.
Miraval's announcement of Vanderslice's appointment is just one of the "revolutionary" additions being made at Miraval. Among the focal points of Miraval's plans for growth are the expansion of its award-winning flagship resort and spa into an inviting balanced-living resort community. Over the next 10 years, Case envisions local wellness centers in multiple communities across America, all offering Miraval programs. Lifestyle products in food, beverage, beauty, body, and health, and nutritional supplements are also part of the plan for the evolution of the Miraval brand into a household name in health and wellness--not just in America, but around the world.
Miraval's majority owner is Revolution Living, a subsidiary of Revolution LLC. Under the leadership of CEO Michael Crooke, Revolution Living invests in businesses that promote more balanced and sustainable lifestyles. Its holdings include Flexcar, a car-sharing service; Lime, the leading cable and satellite radio channel with "mind, body, spirit" programming; and a minority stake in Gaiam Inc., the leading provider of goods and services to customers who value the environment, a sustainable economy, healthy lifestyles, alternative healthcare and personal development.
Revolution Living CEO Michael Crooke said, "We know that John's expertise in the areas of branding, hospitality, real estate operations, product development and marketing will serve us well. This will be important as we endeavor to bring Miraval experiences to more people in more places. John recognizes the importance of balance, and believes that coming to Miraval will be purposeful for him in personal as well as professional ways."
