VIENNA (Thomson Financial) - Eurofigher GmbH chief executive Aloysius Rauen has said that EADS will take legal action against the Austrian state if it declares its contract for 18 Eurofighter jets null and void.
'If at the end of all this we are left with no other choice, then of course we will defend our own legal position,' said Rauen on Austrian national television on Tuesday evening.
Austria's defence minister Norbert Darabos is expected this week to announce the findings of a legal investigation on whether the country has sufficient legal grounds to cancel its order of 18 Eurofighter jets from EADS.
According to Rauen, the current round of discussions with the Austrian defence ministry concerns only a reduction in purchase costs for the interceptors and not a reduction in number. fiona.flanagan@thomson.com ff/jlc COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
