NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Thomson Financial) - Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc said it has filed two third-party lawsuits against a union in response to two lawsuits filed by retired former employees and surviving spouses seeking lifetime 'no cost' health insurance.
Caterpillar said the suit was filed against the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) and seven UAW locals in the US District Court in Nashville, Tennessee, and aims to compel the union to by the terms agreed in 1998 and 2004.
Caterpillar argues it is a breach of contract for the union to support the lawsuit by the former employees and surviving spouses. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.com wj COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
