NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nissan North America Inc. said Thursday its U.S. sales rose in October, boosted by strong gains in its top-selling Altima brand.
The Japanese automaker said sales climbed last month to 84,947 from 75,095 a year earlier. Adjusting for one fewer selling day, sales posted an 8.8 percent gain.
Altima sales rose 41.9 percent to 21,778 from 14,761. Sales of the Versa, Nissan's economy hatchback sedan, also helped results, more than doubling to 6,705 from 3,056.
Nissan-brand vehicle sales rose 9.8 percent to 74,992 from 65,689. Sales of the company's luxury Infiniti brand vehicles fell 1.8 percent to 9,955 from 9,406.
Car sales increased in both divisions, while truck sales declined.
So far this year, Nissan's U.S. sales have risen 5.1 percent to 898,000 from 851,459 in the first 10 months of 2006. Car sales rose 12.5 percent, while truck sales have declined 11.5 percent this year.
