BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China's State Council, or cabinet, has instructed regulators to improve their preparations for implementing next-generation wireless mobile networks, calling the systems 'mature' and 'ready to commercialize.'
In a statement on the central government's web site www.gov.cn, the cabinet said regulators must accelerate the launch process.
China is preparing three third-generation mobile standards for launch. TD-SCDMA is the China-developed mobile platform while WCDMA and CDMA 2000 were developed overseas.
China is believed to be planning to issue three 3G licenses in time for such services to be available by the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
