LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Eli Lilly and Company said the European Medicines Agency's (EMEA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) issued a positive opinion for the centralised use of Alimta, for the first-line treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common form of lung cancer.
'This is an important result for patients and physicians and will improve our ability to select the optimal treatment for patients with NSCLC. Furthermore, this data demonstrates that histology can be a powerful tool in choosing the right drug for the right patient,' Richard Gaynor, MD, vice president of cancer research and global oncology platform leader for Lilly said.
Separately, the company said EMEA also issued a positive opinion recommending approval of Forsteo for the treatment of osteoporosis in women and men at an increased risk for fracture. The opinion issued by the CHMP will need to be ratified by the European Commission before the new indication is considered approved, the company said.
