Target is donating more than $300,000 in product for relief packages to support Hurricane Gustav relief assistance efforts, in partnership with the Red Cross. The packages will be assembled by volunteers and delegates who are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for the Republican National Convention.
Target is also providing additional critical support to this effort:
- We are offering The Salvation Army a vacant Target store in Dallas, TX, to stock relief product.
- We are providing the American Red Cross use of the parking lot at our Covington, LA, Target store for their Central Command Center.
Target is donating product for a total of 40,000 relief packages and 40,000 emergency food packs, prepared by delegates and Target Volunteers. We're also providing an additional 10,000 comfort kits and emergency food packs that Target Volunteers assembled earlier this year to prepare for hurricane season. The relief packages include toothpaste, toothbrush, body wash or bar soap, hand sanitizer and deodorant. The emergency food packs contain granola and protein bars and other snack items.
"Our thoughts go out to the many individuals and families who are being impacted by Hurricane Gustav," said Laysha Ward, president, Target Community Relations and Target Foundation. "We are committed to providing support and comfort in this time of need and will continue to provide additional assistance as necessary, in collaboration with our disaster response partners, to ensure the community is able to recover as quickly as possible."
Target currently has 12 stores closed in preparation of the storm's arrival and all team members are accounted for and are safe.
