BEIJING, Jan 8 (Reuters) - China will have to rely on imports for about 60 percent of its oil demand by 2020, up from 50 percent now, the Ministry of Land and Resources said in a report published on its website.
The country plans to boost its own oil production to help meet demand, and to double gas output by 2015, but its reliance on imports will grow even faster.
The ministry forecast that by 2020 the world's second-largest oil consuming country would need 500 million tonnes of oil a year (10 million barrels per day) to keep its economy going.
The country's domestic oil output is expected to reach 190 million tonnes (3.8 million barrels per day) in 2010 and gas production will reach 110 billion cubic meters, the ministry said.
By 2015, the country will produce 200 million tonnes of crude oil and 160 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas a year, it said, double the 79 bcm produced in 2008.
Consumption of coal will exceed 3.5 billion tonnes by 2020, it said.
