CIGNA Running Team Will Join 10,000 Runners to Honor Healthy Lifestyles and Recognize Individuals Who Have Overcome Personal Health Challenges to Stay Fit
CIGNA (NYSE:CI):
What:
The 37th running of the seven-mile CIGNA Falmouth Road
Race welcomes 10,000 runners, among them last year’s champions as well
as an Olympic silver medalist. Nearly 250 CIGNA employees,
clients, business associates, and friends and family will take part as
members of the CIGNA Running Team, which also includes members of The
Achilles Track Club and the CIGNA
Falmouth Road Race Challenge essay contest winner. This is the
fourth year CIGNA has been the title sponsor.
When and Where:
Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. in
Falmouth, Massachusetts - The race starts at the Woods Hole Community
Center and finishes near the Falmouth Heights Ball Field.
Race day visitors near the CIGNA Tent on the ball field should plan to check out two notable attractions:
- A returning favorite - NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans will have a puppy petting booth. Race fans are encouraged to come learn more about NEADS, while seeing the organization’s puppies and service dogs.
- The CIGNA Celebration Wall where people can share the accomplishments they are celebrating at Falmouth.
Why:
CIGNA Falmouth Road Race celebrates healthy living and
honors those inspiring individuals among us who overcome great
adversity. The CIGNA community praises runners and their families who
are supporting the broad variety of causes represented at the race. Last
year’s race raised $1.3 million for 61 non-profit groups. A few of the
organizations and individuals CIGNA supports represent people who
overcome unique challenges including:
- The winner of CIGNA's national essay contest, Nicholas LaRaia of Oxford, North Carolina and other inspiring essay contest entrants, who earned an honorable mention.
- NEADS, which provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities, which will receive a total of $36,000 this year from contributions by CIGNA's disability business, the CIGNA Foundation and CIGNA employees.
- The Achilles Track Club, which encourages people with disabilities to participate in long-distance running. This year, three Achilles runners, and their guides, will run as members of The CIGNA Running Team.
By showing up in full-force, The CIGNA Running Team hopes to encourage others to achieve their own best level of health and wellness.
