Capella Healthcare, headquartered in Franklin, TN, has been named to the “Tennessee’s Top 25 Fastest Growing Companies” list by the Nashville Business Journal, as part of its annual 100th Edition. The awards were based on percent growth over a three-year period.
“What an honor to be recognized for our growth and success as a company,” said Dan Slipkovich, Founder and CEO of Capella Healthcare. “Congratulations are in order for Capella employees and physicians both here in Tennessee and across the country. We are proud to be contributing to the continued economic growth of our industry and our state.”
Capella partners with mid-size communities to build strong local healthcare systems, and presently operates 13 hospitals in seven states. With the financial backing of GTCR Golder Rauner, Capella has access to significant resources for the expansion and improvement of its hospitals and the services they provide.
Over the past three years, the company has experienced more than 250 percent growth in revenue. Capella attributes its continued growth to its focus in three areas of investment: workforce development, physician recruitment and re-investment in Capella hospitals.
Workforce Development
“Providing quality patient care begins with developing our workforce,” said Slipkovich. “It is our responsibility to provide our hospital employees and physicians with tools and training they need to improve performance and exceed patients’ expectations.”
Building on strong clinical quality marks across the board in CMS’ Core Measures, Capella has partnered with best-in-class vendors to make Capella hospitals an even better place to work and to receive care. Partnerships with Studer Group - the market leader in evidence-based tools and processes related to service excellence - and with HealthStream Online Learning Programs - a continuing education and training initiative for employees - roll out this fall.
Physician Recruitment
“With our nation facing an ever-growing shortage of physicians, it’s critical for Capella to work with our medical staffs to stay out in front of recruitment for our growing communities,” said Tom Anderson, Co-Founder and President of Capella.
After completing a detailed needs assessment in 2008, Capella is on track to recruit approximately 300 physicians across a full spectrum of specialties by 2012. With 50 new physicians joining Capella hospitals last year, the company is on track to bring on 60 to 70 additional physicians in 2009.
Re-Investment in Capella Hospitals
Capella continues to make significant capital investments in its hospitals in an effort to expand its service offering in the communities it serves. Along with ongoing routine technology and equipment updates, some recent specific projects include:
- $6 million investment in a full-service cancer unit at Capital Medical Center, Olympia, WA.
- Development of medical office buildings onsite at Southwestern Medical Center, Lawton, OK, and planning for MOB projects at Muskogee Regional Medical Center, Muskogee, OK; National Park Medical Center, Hot Springs, AR; Parkway Medical Center, Decatur, AL; and Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville, OR.
- Upgrades to information technology at Muskogee Regional; National Park; and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Russellville, AR.
- $5 million investment this year in new imaging equipment and technology at Muskogee Regional.
- Expanded cardiac catheterization labs at National Park and Capital.
