Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, will showcase technologies for the photovoltaic (PV) industry at the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC)in Hamburg, Germany, from September 21-25. Engineered to support the growing PV cell market, the featured products and systems help increase yield, conserve resources and reduce reworking times in solar cell production processes.
Automated Systems
The Pall display will feature a fully automated membrane filtration system for the recovery of spent process water from silicon ingot shaping and wafer rinse operations. At the heart of the Pall system is a dynamic membrane filtration unit enabling complete clarification of process fluids. The modular system design allows flexible adaptation to various process tools. The result is reduced water consumption, increased cutting and grinding speed, improved wafer surface quality, reduced equipment fouling and easier reclamation of silicon dust.
“Water reclamation and reuse in ingot shaping operations significantly reduces costs and maximizes the utilization of source materials, while enabling discharge regulations to be met. The system’s return on investment is typically under two years,” said Lothar Dalitz, market segment leader, Pall Microelectronics Europe.
A comprehensive survey on "Waste treatment and reclamation of reusable materials in manufacturing of cSi PV wafers" will be presented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rolf Berndt, Jochen Ruth, Dipl.-Ing., and Steve Waters, BSc (Hons). The visual presentation, number 2CV.1.80, will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd from 8:30-10:10 a.m. in the poster area at the 24th EU PVSEC.
In addition to automated water and material reclamation systems, Pall offers systems to clarify polyethylene glycol (PEG) for the regeneration of sawing slurries.
Gas Filtration and Purification
Pall will also display its range of products for the filtration and purification of process gases used in Czochralski (CZ) ingot pullers and in sputtering, thermal deposition and distribution equipment.
- Gaskleen® purifiers remove molecular contaminants from process gases used in the production of solar cells.
- AresKleen™ INP medium purifies the argon used as a blanket within CZ Puller tools.
- AresKleen™ SIP medium purifies both hydrogen and silane gases used in thermal deposition processes.
- ChamberKleen™ diffusers are ideally suited for vent applications on load lock interfaces or other vacuum chambers where large volumes of gas are flowing for a short period of time.
- Gaskleen®Light filter assemblies provide high-purity gasfiltration for PV manufacturing. They are produced utilizing less raw material and energy than standard filters and are housed in environmentally friendly packaging.
Other Displays
Another Pall exhibit will highlight Blowback Filtration Systems for the protection of CZ ingot puller vacuum pumps. Pall will also showcase a range of filters and uniquely designed housings for chemical and water filtration.
- Profile® A/S filters are specially designed to provide cost-effective solutions for hot, and/or highly contaminated, aggressive chemicals and are, therefore, ideally suited for alkali texturization.
- Ultipleat® PK filters are designed for chemical and DI water processing on large substrates for high-flow chemical filtration for thin film solar module manufacturing.
The systems and products provide long-term service without the interruption of frequent change-outs, increasing uptime and reducing maintenance costs for solar cell producers.
Pall Microelectronics supports the solar energy, semiconductor, data storage, fiber optic, advance display, solar and materials markets with a comprehensive suite of contamination control solutions for chemical, gas, water, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) and photolithography processes.
