HOUSTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Most Gulf Coast crudes gained while Midcontinent grades lost Wednesday in the second day of October-November roll trade on the U.S. cash crude market.
Light Louisiana Sweet strengthened 10 cents to sell for 65 cents a barrel over West Texas Intermediate. Mars sour gained 20 cents to minus +$3.80.
Roll trade is the three days between previous contract expiry Tuesday and the pipeline scheduling deadline Friday. Traders still in need raced to balance their slates before Friday.
On futures markets, November WTI ended its first day as the front-month contract down $2.79 to $68.97 a barrel. November Brent shed $2.54 to $67.99.
The roll, the price paid to roll an October contract into November without delivery, moved from -30 cents to -20 cents.
Among other cash grades, Bonito sour gained 5 cents to $1.85 under the screen. Poseidon rose 25 cents to minus $3.90. But Thunder Horse slid 30 cents to minus $2.30.
Away from the coast, WTI at Midland weakened 4 cents to 59 cents under. West Texas Sour skidded 35 cents to minus $2.60.
Alaska North Slope crude oil for November delivery last traded publicly Sept. 16 for 90 cents a barrel under WTI, unchanged from its previous level.
California buyers cut posted prices $2.60 a barrel, in line with the move in WTI futures. --------------------------------------------------------------
