Oct 14 (Reuters) - Aesthetic laser device maker Solta Medical Inc said it received U.S. regulatory approval for its device to clear pigmentation and other superficial skin conditions, sending its shares up 31 percent.
The company said the device, called the Fraxel re:store Dual Laser System, can be used both on the face and large body areas to address clearance of pigmentation in a single treatment.
The company already has regulatory approval for the device with a 1550 nanometer (nm) wavelength for skin resurfacing and treatment of pigmented lesions and certain other skin conditions.
The new approval is for the Fraxel 1927 nm laser for dermatological procedures requiring the coagulation of soft tissue.
Shares of the company were up 31 percent to $2.89 in trading after the bell. They closed at $2.19 Wednesday on Nasdaq.
