SYDNEY, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set for more
gains on Friday, with resources firms rising after higher oil and
metals prices, though caution over financial firms after some
U.S. bank earnings disappointed investors may cap gains.
Stock index futures stood 0.3 percent higher at 4,885, a 25.1 point premium to the 4,859.9 close in the underlying the S&P/ASX 200 index on Thursday.
In company news, iron ore firm United Minerals is set to announce a takeover offer, with speculation over the buyer centreing on BHP Billiton.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index rose 0.4 percent to 3,205.52, a 12 month high, in early trade.
