MI Also Welcomes Internationally Renowned Shredder Vinnie Moore Of British Hard Rock Band UFO For a Special Guitar Clinic October 27
Halloween's coming and the days are growing colder, but the special events calendar at Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu) is heating up with several exciting late October special seminar and clinic events.
On Thursday, October 29 at 4 p.m. in the Concert Hall, MI's Audio Engineering Department presents a seminar by acclaimed synthesist, arranger, programmer, producer and engineer Patrick Gleeson on “Effective Recording: A Musician's View of What Works.”
Gleeson has worked on hundreds of jazz, R&B, rock and classical albums as well as creating scores for feature films and network television series. Among his major achievements, his first recording with Herbie Hancock, Crossings, introduced electronic instruments to jazz. Gleeson was the master synthesist and arranger for the film Apocalypse Now, and his analog synthesizer realization of Holst's Planets received a Grammy nomination for Technical Achievement.
Gleeson will discuss the engineering aspects of his work with artists as diverse as Hancock, Devo, Francis Ford Coppola, Van Morrison, Patti LaBelle and the Kronos Quartet.
On Tuesday, October 27, at 4 p.m., MI welcomes internationally renowned shredder Vinnie Moore (of the legendary British hard rock band UFO) to the Concert Hall stage for a special guitar clinic. Covering everything from single-note lead techniques to the art of recording full-length “instru-metal” albums to his experiences touring the world with UFO, Moore —- known as one of the most influential guitarists to emerge from the “shredder boom” of the mid-80's -- will offer live playing examples for GIT students and field questions in an open Q&A format.
Since 1977, Musicians Institute (MI) has trained thousands of graduates for careers in every genre of contemporary music. From the beginning, MI revolutionized music education with hands-on, intensive, performance-based programs taught by working professionals. Today, MI's unique, innovative approach includes degree and certificate programs for career-minded guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardists, audio engineers, independent artists, guitar makers, music business professionals and filmmakers.
