Destined to become one of the world's foremost winemakers, Heidi Peterson Barrett grew up in a winemaking family in the Napa Valley. A graduate from U.C. Davis, she was hired as a winemaker at the age of 25 for Buehler Vineyards. Only five years later, she began consulting for other wineries and soon took her talents to the next level, creating wines of “cult” status. Her powerful yet elegant cabernets include the famous proprietary blend “Maya” which received perfect 100 point scores in two consecutive vintages ('92 and '93) from Robert Parker, as well as Screaming Eagle, her most celebrated and successful project to date. The 1992 and 1997 vintages garnered another set of perfect 100's from Parker.
Heidi, who loves the ocean and especially scuba diving, is now concentrating on her own label, La Sirena, introduced in 1994. “I was looking for a name for my wine which would be fun and magical. La Sirena, which means 'the Mermaid' in Italian and Spanish is a lovely expression of my two great passions!” Heidi's winemaking style lends itself seamlessly to the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and dry Muscat Canelli (Moscato Azul) she handcrafts for La Sirena, and the winemaking finesse that garnered such awards for her previous efforts is clearly evident. Says Heidi, “I'm excited about joining up with Cellars of Sonoma and look forward to showcasing my wines there.”
Cellars of Sonoma, located in Railroad Square, is the only collective tasting room in Santa Rosa where you may taste wines from nine different boutique wineries in one hip spot, blending old world charm with new world wines. Railroad Square is fast becoming the emerging destination in Sonoma County, with 14 restaurants, boutique shopping and 350 hotel rooms within blocks of each other, making it the place to be!
