World's Largest Math Prize for Girls

WHAT: | The first annual Advantage Testing Foundation's Math Prize for Girls competition. | ||||
First Prize is $20,000. | |||||
WHO: | 250 top-performing girls from across the United States will compete for $43,000 in total prize money by solving 20 multi-level math problems in 150 minutes. | ||||
WHEN: | Saturday, November 14, 2009 - starting at 9:00 AM. | ||||
The winners will be announced in a ceremony for students and their families beginning at 2:00 PM. | |||||

ADD'L INFO: | In addition to the $20,000 first prize, the second, third, and fourth place are $10,000, $5,000 and $2,000 respectively; students who finish fifth to tenth will each receive $1,000. | ||||
| The goal of the Advantage Testing Foundation is to advance the educational opportunities of students whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in higher education. It has endowed the Math Prize for Girls to encourage young women with exceptional potential to become the mathematical and scientific leaders of tomorrow. | |||||
| Arun Alagappan is president of the Advantage Testing Foundation and founder of the competition. NYU President John Sexton serves on the Foundation's Board of Trustees. Launched in 2007, the Advantage Testing Foundation is the public service arm of Advantage Testing, a private tutorial service dedicated to academic rigor, long-term educational development, and the proposition that tests are powerful vehicles for learning. | |||||
