Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA) announced that Anabel Hernández has joined the firm as an associate in its Business Bankruptcy and Consumer Financial Services practice areas.
Hernándezbegan working with HWA (www.hwa.com) in 2008 as a law clerk while attending South Texas College of Law in Houston. Shortly after graduating, she became a full-time associate at HWA. Previously, Hernándezserved as a law clerk with the law firm of Nathan Sommers Jacobs, P.C., in Houston and also as a judicial intern with The Honorable Judge Jeff Bohm, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.
In addition to bankruptcy law, Hernándezfocuses her practice on state and federal consumer finance regulation. Fully fluent in Spanish, she also reviews Spanish legal, financial and marketing materials for the firm and its clients to ensure accuracy and compliance. Additionally, she assists the firm's Commercial Litigation and Business Planning and Strategy groups.
Hernándezwas admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May 2009. Prior to graduating cum laude from South Texas College of Law with a Juris Doctor, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2004.
Hernándezis currently a member of the American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association Bankruptcy Section, Houston Young Bankruptcy Lawyers Association, Houston Young Lawyers Association, Mexican American Bar Association of Houston, The Arthur L. Moller - David B. Foltz, Jr. American Inn of Court, and the Turnaround Management Association. Hernándezis also a member of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston and is a new member of the Latin Women's Initiative.
In her spare time, Hernándezvolunteers with the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and the Citizenship Forum. She is also a lector and volunteer at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.
