Ideal temperatures for snow making enable Lutsen Mountains operator to produce snow at an expedited pace; all lifts and primary runs to be open by holidays, resorts are ready
The snowstorm that hit Minnesota this week is the catalyst that many local winter sports enthusiasts needed to trigger their mindset for winter activities like downhill skiing and snowboarding. Lutsen Mountains, Minnesota''s and the Midwest''s largest ski destination, reports the best snow-making weather conditions it has seen in recent years. And Caribou Highlands Lodge, located on the mountain, has a full activity schedule for guests.
"Ideal local temperatures at Lutsen have enabled the mountain''s operators to run snow machines 24/7 since Dec. 1, and the foreseeable weather outlook calls for continued optimal snow-making temperatures," said Danny Kennedy, Caribou Highlands Lodge ski guide. He reports that the mountain''s snow machines have been able to produce snow almost 60 percent faster than usual. Currently, 20 Lutsen runs and six lifts are open for weekend skiing. The mountain will be open daily starting Dec. 18, and all of its lifts and primary runs will be open by the holidays.
Caribou Highlands Lodge, a family ski resort, also is ready for skiers and snowboarders who are seeking weekend and week-long getaways. Ski in/ski out capabilities at Caribou will be in place by Dec. 18. "Now that people are seeing snow on the ground, they are starting to think about their winter ski getaways," said Kennedy. "If you are a ski or snowboard enthusiast, the latest snowfall has you feeling pretty excited to hit the slopes and plan a great trip. This is a perfect time to make your plans if you are looking for an early jump on the winter rush and the best lodging options."
In addition to allowing visitors immediate access to Lutsen skiing, Caribou Highlands Lodge also offers prime mountain scenery, an array of amenities including a pool and spas, a restaurant, and complimentary evening games and activities for children. "Our children''s activities are a popular offering that enables parents to relax and unwind while their children are entertained and supervised," said Kennedy. Activities include crafts, bonfires with s''mores, scavenger hunts, and movie nights.
