Convergys also exhibited at the event and showcased its smart business support solutions for telecommunications operators. Speaking on, "Middle East Market Evolution and Saudi Arabia as Regional Bellwether," Convergys' Denis Bernaert discussed the operational and competitive implications of a rapid growth market for Middle East telecom operators, and how Saudi Arabia is leading the way in the region. Bernaert is a vice president in the Information Management line of business for Convergys, responsible for client management in France, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to Bernaert, three big challenges confront operators in the Middle East today, depending upon their market position: (1) dealing with the high cost of multiple BSS systems to deliver convergent services cost-effectively, (2) growing market share and average revenue per subscriber (ARPU) via service innovation, and (3) driving growth with scalable BSS solutions. Bernaert noted that Convergys' real-time charging and customer intelligence solutions can help operators effectively address these challenges and better compete for customer loyalty in a market where prepay accounts for a large percentage of all subscriptions and multiple SIM holders are the norm.
In addition, Bernaert discussed why Saudi Arabia is the region's bellwether, as it sustains market growth even in relative maturity. He pointed out a number of factors contributing to Saudi Arabia's leadership, including its strong focus on the customer experience and customer loyalty and retention.
