Cavium's Fully Standards-based netHDTM Technology Enables Full HD H.264 Compression and HDCP 2.0 Content Protection in Accton Designs
Cavium Networks (NASDAQ:CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications and the connected home, today announced that Accton Technology has selected Cavium's PureVuTM video processor family for its next generation designs targeting wireless home video networking applications. Cavium's innovative netHDTM technology is based on H.264 compression standard and 802.11n WiFi networking to enable end-to-end wireless display and home video distribution capability in a variety of consumer electronic devices. Accton's netHDTM based products using Cavium's CNW3XXX PureVuTM family are already available in the market.
"We are very happy to be working closely with Cavium on bringing state-of-the-art home video distribution products to the consumer space," said Samuel Chang, the EVP of Accton. "As a premier global provider of networking and communication equipment, Accton has a strong track record of offering end-to-end solutions that enable rapid market deployment. Cavium's PureVuTM video processors, along with their comprehensive netHDTM technology, provided us with a holistic solution that enabled rapid customization and market introduction of our products. This time-to-product advantage has allowed us to be one of the first to offer our PureVuTM based designs to global OEMs."
Accton's initial designs based on the PureVuTM technology offer stand-alone transmitter and receiver wireless dongles that can attach to any media source with HDMI or VGA output, and use standard 802.11n WiFi technology to transmit the H.264 encoded video stream to a remote display. A stand-alone receiver dongle on the display side, then, decodes and displays the compressed video stream on the TV monitor it is connected to via HDMI. PureVuTM video processors from Cavium are optimized to perform this transmission with the highest quality and lowest latency in the industry using the integrated Super Low Latency (SLL) TechnologyTM. In addition, HDCP 2.0 Hollywood quality content protection can be provided using Cavium's widely deployed Nitrox security engine. A combination of software and hardware components enable Cavium's intelligent network monitoring module called SMART (Secure Minimum-latency Adaptation and Reliable Transmission), which is responsible for ensuring high quality, secure and reliable content transmission through even the most challenging WiFi networks.
