Jan 28 (Reuters) - Chipmaker Cavium Networks Inc posted fourth-quarter results beating market expectations, helped by growth in its enterprise and data center markets.
The company, whose chips are used in the networking, communications, storage and security industries, posted a loss of $4.5 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with a loss of $4.4 million, or 11 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, the company earned 8 cents per share.
Cavium, whose customers include Cisco Systems Inc and F5 Networks, said revenue rose 45 percent to $32.1 million for the fourth quarter.
Analysts on average were expecting Cavium to earn 7 cents a share, before special items, on revenue of $30.9 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Shares of the Mountain View, California-based company rose about 1 percent in extended trading. They closed at $22.19 Thursday in regular trading on Nasdaq.
