FRANKFURT, March 20 (Reuters) - Prosecutors probing a snooping scandal at Deutsche Telekom have dropped proceedings against the firm's former chairman and former chief executive, a magazine reported.
Germany's Focus magazine on Saturday quoted Bonn prosecutor Fred Apostel as saying the proceedings against Klaus Zumwinkel and Kai-Uwe Ricke had been terminated for lack of evidence.
There was insufficient evidence they were involved in the illegal monitoring of phone call records between 2005 and 2006, the magazine said, quoting Apostel.
The Bonn prosecutor could not immediately be reached for comment.
Deutsche Telekom acknowledged in June 2008 that it had illegally monitored phone call records amid allegations the firm had targeted board members and journalists to stop leaks to the media.
The monitoring of phone records took place when Ricke was CEO of Deutsche Telekom and Zumwinkel was chairman.
Both men had denied all knowledge of illegal activities at the company.
