Company support helps Buckeye family provide clean drinking water
Arizona American Water partners with Water is Life in an effort to provide a long-term solution for the water crisis in Haiti. Buckeye customers Kristine and Mark Bender, and their daughters, Picabo and Olivia, are traveling to Haiti with supplies for the struggling country.
On Friday, Oct. 1, the family left for Haiti with a plan to provide water filters, a goal to educate the communities on water issues, and to identify long-term opportunities such as repairing pumps or drilling wells.
There are 1.1 billion people worldwide who do not have access to clean drinking water, according to Water is Life. Water is Life has provided a solution, however, distributing small, portable purification devices that can be worn like a necklace and are capable of providing each child a year's supply of clean drinking water.
Arizona American Water's support goes straight to providing water filters to Haitian communities in need. Water is Life has already sent over 13,000 straw filters to Haiti. Following the earthquake, the need for water filters continues to grow.
