LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Greggs Plc's (GRG.L) third-quarter 2011 total sales grew by 5.4 percent, including like-for-like growth of 0.8 percent. For the 39 weeks ended 1 October 2011, total sales increased 4.6 percent and like-for-like sales by 0.6 percent. The company said it continues to see good growth in breakfast sales including the roll out of Fairtrade coffee to all its shops.
During the first 39 weeks of the financial year, Greggs opened 66 shops and closed 13, making a net rise of 53 and giving a total of 1,540 shops at 1 October 2011. The company remains on track to achieve its target of opening around 80 net new shops during the year as a whole and completing 160 refurbishments.
Additionally, Greggs announced the appointment of Ian Durant as an independent non-executive director, effective immediately.
