WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Saks Inc. (SKS) reported a 5.8 percent increase in comparable store sales, a key retailer sales metric, for the month of December.
For the five-week month, owned sales increased 4.7 percent year over year to $452.5 million.
The company noted that the strongest categories at Saks Fifth Avenue stores included women's and men's contemporary apparel, handbags, women's shoes, fine jewelry, men's accessories, and fragrances. Saks Direct sales performed well during the month, it said.
Quarter-to-date, comparable store sales increased 7.1 percent, and for the year-to-date period, comps rose 9.5 percent.
