WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Helmerich & Payne Inc. (HP) announced that its Chairman Walter Helmerich, III passed away. Born on January 12, 1923 in Tulsa to Walter Helmerich, co-founder of Helmerich & Payne, Inc., and Cadijah Colcord. Walt Helmerich is survived by his wife of 60 years, former actress Peggy Dow; his five sons.
Helmerich joined Helmerich & Payne, Inc. in 1950 and became President in 1960. He led the Company until 1989, when his son, Hans, was named CEO. He retained the role of Chairman and served in that position for the last 22 years.
