Cornell-Mayo Associates (CMA) today announced that Saks Fifth Avenue is piloting Cornell-Mayo's Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod at two Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores. The pilot is underway at stores in Woodbury Commons, NY and Bergen, NJ, with four iPods in each store. Saks plans to pilot the Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod in their Saks Fifth Avenue stores later this month as well as begin the rollout to additional OFF 5TH and Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Spring 2012.
The mobile POS solution includes remote wireless printing using two Epson printers, the TM-P60 (Mobilink) and the TM-T88V. Epson's Mobilink printer offers a 20-hour battery life and is used for its excellent reliability and mobility, while the TM-88V will be used for more stationary applications throughout the store.
The feedback from the pilot has been extremely positive, and the Cornell-Mayo solution is enabling sales associates to deliver a high standard of customer service through a number of new features, including the following:
- Using the Omniexpress mobile POS solution, associates can now do price inquiries on the sales floor, rather than leaving their assigned areas to go to a register.
- Associates are able to travel the stores, looking for customers who can be remotely checked out. The associates carry everything needed to complete the transaction right on the spot, including the Epson TM-P60 mobile printers.
- The mobile POS solutions can be used for line busting during peak shopping times.
- Saks is also considering using the mobile POS solution for merchandise returns, freeing up stationary POS registers for purchases and reducing wait times at checkout lines.
"Saks associates at the pilot stores have quickly adapted to the interface, since it is very similar to our conventional register-based POS application used in all Saks stores," said Windell Manuel, SVP/CTO, Saks Fifth Avenue. "It uses the same code and business logic as the registers. In addition, our customers are impressed that Saks is using the latest technology, and they find that the experience is very personal."
"Saks is a longtime Cornell-Mayo customer, and we are delighted to see terrific results from incorporating our mobile POS into the stores," said Gene Cornell, president, Cornell-Mayo Associates. "We look forward to working with Saks to continue determining how our mobile solution can further enhance Saks' legendary customer service."
Cornell-Mayo will showcase its award-winning retail software solutions, including the Omnistore POS suite supporting all major platforms (Windows, Linux, iPhone®, iPadTM, iPod touch® and AndroidTM) and the Omniexpress solution for mobile, at the National Retail Federation's Annual Convention and Expo, Jan. 16 and 17, 2012 at New York City's Javits Convention Center (booth # 1026.)
