WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. (WDR) Tuesday reported fourth quarter net income of $40.0 million, or $0.47 per share, compared to $46.4 million, or $0.54 per share, during the same period last year. On average, 11 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.48 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. Sales during the fourth quarter were $5.0 billion, approximately $600 million less than last year's fourth quarter. Total operating revenues stood at $290.91 million compared to $281.25 million last year. Wall Street was looking for $266.81 million.
