ISSAQUAH (dpa-AFX) - Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST) reported January comparable sales growth of 8% for the total company, with net sales increasing 11% to $7.00 billion from $6.30 billion last year. For the first twenty-two-weeks, net sales totaled $40.18 billion, an increase of 11 percent from prior year's $36.08 billion, with comparable sales increase of 9%. The company added that the inflation in gasoline prices positively impacted comparable sales, particularly for the twenty-two-week period; while foreign currencies had a negative impact for both periods. Excluding these effects, comparable sales for both the four-week and 22-week periods went up by 8% and 7% respectively.
