WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Retailer Saks Incorporated (SKS) said its January comparable-store sales increased 10.5%, with owned sales totaling $175.6 million for the four-week period versus $163.8 million last year, a 7.2% growth year-on-year. For January, the strongest categories at Saks Fifth Avenue stores included women's contemporary and 'gold range' designer apparel; handbags; and men's accessories, clothing and contemporary apparel, with Saks Direct sales performing well during the month. For the fourth quarter, owned sales grew to $905.1 million from $850.8 million a year ago, up 6.4%. Comparable-store sales rose 7.7% for the fourth quarter.
