New Technology Architectures Are CE 2.0 Ready and Being Deployed in the IP Edge; A Served Market Estimated to Exceed $500 Million by 2015
Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, is a first-adopter of the Metro Ethernet Forum's (MEF)Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) requirements for mobile backhaul and mobile access equipment, the fastest growing markets in the IP Edge network.
"Vitesse has been a long-time member of the MEF and an evangelist for the proliferation of Ethernet technology in Carrier networks," said Martin Nuss, chief technology officer at Vitesse. "We are very supportive of the CE 2.0 requirements as they establish a market definition for the Carrier Ethernet feature set and create a framework for future value-added services. By incorporating the CE 2.0 requirements into our robust and feature-rich Carrier Ethernet technology architecture, we have established Vitesse as the industry's preferred solution provider for the IP Edge market. We estimate that this market will be a $500 million served market for Vitesse by 2015."
Vitesse's comprehensive Mobile Access product portfolio of Carrier Ethernet Switch Engines and 1588v2 PHYs support the three primary requirements of the MEF CE 2.0:
- Multi-Class Quality of Service (multi-CoS) Support: Vitesse's Carrier Ethernet switch engine portfolio, launched in 2010, already includes Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS) mechanisms. Its recently introduced flagship device, Serval™, extends beyond simple priority queuing to include multi-stage scheduling, policing, and traffic shaping. Serval also provides the ability to separate subscriber types with per subscriber queuing, resulting in better service performance and increased Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees.
- Carrier-class Manageability: Vitesse's Mobile Access portfolio of hardware and software offers the most complete Ethernet Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) support, critical for SMB and Enterprise, which typically receive Ethernet services spanning multiple service provider networks.
- Multi-operator Service OAM and Interconnect: Only Vitesse Mobile Access switch engines can provide Hybrid Network Interface Device (NID) support and hardware based Up/Down Maintenance Association Endpoint (MEPs) today to support multi-operator networks. Vitesse's Mobile Access portfolio also includes a complementary array of 1GE and 10GE PHY interconnect solutions with Carrier-class features such as Y.1731 OAM and IEEE1588v2 timestamping support.
