Semiconductor manufacturer saves money, reduces service center requests with Aruba Instant
Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN) today announced that Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., a global leader of highly integrated analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, has extended its network and deployed a wireless access network utilizing Aruba Instant virtualized controllers to deliver wireless coverage to its 24 sales offices, 40 technology design centers, and 11 wafer fabrication/testing facilities.
Cost, ease of management and reliability were key concerns for Maxim when selecting and deploying a wireless network in 75 locations around the globe. The company evaluated several vendors' wireless solutions in 2011, and determined that Aruba offered the best approach to delivering reliable, cost-effective wireless access to all of the organization's users.
"We have eight or nine sites that use controllers with the remainder of our 75 locations using Aruba Instant access points," explained Dennis Tsao, Manager, IT Infrastructure for Maxim. "This was cost-effective for a global organization like ours."
Tsao also appreciated the improved reliability that Maxim realized with the Aruba solution.
"With the previous vendor's solution, our users had trouble when their laptops would go into sleep or hibernate mode, or when they would take their laptops offsite and then try to reconnect to the wireless network," Tsao said. "But, since we've deployed the Aruba products, I have noticed a decrease in the number of help requests."
Maxim's full deployment includes 10 Aruba Mobility Controllers, 180 Aruba AP-105s and 400 Aruba Instant IAP-105s, as well as the Aruba Airwave Management System. Employees access the network through company-issued laptops, as well as their own personal smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. The organization has already purchased, and intends to expand guest access coverage with the Aruba ClearPass guest solution. In addition, Maxim management expects to see a wider variety of applications on the network in the coming months including more video streaming with employees using unified communication, Skype, and FaceTime on their tablets and smartphones.
"Maxim is a perfect example of how Aruba's unique wireless LAN deployment flexibility delivers an ideal solution for enterprises," said Scott Calzia, director of product and solutions marketing for Aruba. "Aruba Instant can be deployed very cost-effectively for distributed enterprise locations, while Mobility Controllers can be deployed in sites where both scale and network service complexity demand a centralized architecture. In both scenarios, the customer never sacrifices critical enterprise-class features."
