Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, announced today that it has agreed to provide its most advanced solid-state drives (SSDs) to KHAN, Samsung Electronics' professional e-sports gaming team, a well-respected StarCraft league competitor. Samsung will provide its latest, high-performing 256 Gigabyte (GB) SSDs to every player on KHAN in helping them to enjoy a state-of-the-art PC gaming environment.
"We are pleased that the highly competitive professional e-sports players of KHAN will be using Samsung SSDs to enhance their gaming readiness, while helping us to make consumers more aware of advanced PC environments that feature the high performance and reliability of Samsung SSDs," said UnSoo Kim, vice president, memory strategic marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics. "We expect that the SSD market will continue to record a high growth rate in the coming years as more SSDs are used in ultra-slim mobile PCs with a sharp increase in the volume of premium notebook PCs sold."
All KHAN players will be able to enjoy booting and application loading speeds three times as fast as those with conventional hard drives. Samsung SSDs also will improve performance and reliability by preventing "freezing" or lagging of applications and assuring stable operation for a longer period compared to hard drives.
Consumers have been showing more interest in Samsung SSDs, which provide a higher-class of computing compared to hard disks, at a time when PC games with higher computing environment requirements are being introduced to the market.
Samsung SSDs have been in play previously with the e-sports and gaming community. Samsung supported the World Cyber Games (WCG) 2009 Finals in the U.S. by providing SSDs for 160 contestant desktop PCs. Samsung SSDs also became available in Dell's popular Alienware gaming laptops in 2009, followed by a Samsung SSD sponsorship for Alienware at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2010.
Last month, Samsung introduced a digital advertising campaign, consisting of video episodes with a humorous touch that appealed directly to general consumers. Now, Samsung is stepping closer to end users by promoting the Samsung SSD user experience with professional gamers, while increasing awareness of the superior attributes of Samsung SSDs with consumers.
