In conjunction with the 38th annual Gothia Cup football tournament held in Gothenburg, Sweden, a new world record was made at Liseberg Amusement Park in the category of "Most nationalities on a theme park ride". There were 72 different nationalities represented in the record, which included players from the SKF Meet the World tournaments, Gothia Cup and citizens of Gothenburg. "By bringing different nationalities together on one ride we want to show our borderless world and our common responsibility for its future, regardless of nationality, religion, sex or colour," says Tom Johnstone, SKF President and CEO.
The record in the Liseberg ferris wheel was witnessed by Guinness World Records representative, Annabel Lawday. She congratulated the new world record holders. The group succeeded to set the record with a good margin over the minimum required number of 50 nationalities. SKF, Gothia Cup, and Liseberg arranged this record. Meet the World is one of SKF's largest CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) projects whereby local SKF companies host football tournaments. Meet the World runs in countries all over the world for youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity to play in Gothia Cup in Sweden.
