WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Property and casualty insurance provider Progressive Corp. (PGR) reported that net income for the month of February declined 6% to $100.2 million from $106.3 million in the same month last year. Earnings per share for the month were $0.17, unchanged from last year.
Net premiums written for the month increased 8% to $1.49 billion from $1.38 billion in the year ago month. Net premiums earned for the month was $1.29 billion, up 8% from $1.19 billion last year.
Combined ratio for the month increased to 91.4 from 91.2 in the prior year.
