WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Annaly Capital Management Inc. (NLY) Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $852.3 million or $0.87 per share, down from $897.9 million or $0.89 per share last year.
Excluding special items, net income for the quarter was $464.4 million or $0.47 per share as compared to $529.3 million or $0.54 per share last year.
Net interest income for the period dropped to $559.6 million from $721.6 million last year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.34 per share on revenues of $424.64 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
