SANTA CLARA (dpa-AFX) - Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) Thursday reported second-quarter loss of $129 million or $0.11 per share, compared to a profit of $289 million or $0.22 per share in the comparable quarter last year.
Adjusted earnings for the quarter was $199 million or $0.16 per share. On average, 15 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.13 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues declined to $1.97 billion from $2.54 billion last year. Analysts expected revenues of $1.91 billion.
Looking ahead to the third quarter, the company expects to report adjusted earnings in a range of $0.16 to $0.20 per share, with sales up slightly from the previous quarter. Analysts currently expect third-quarter earnings of $0.19 per share.
