Dr. Brian Levy of Health Language to Address Challenges Vendors Face in Addressing the Intersection of ICD-10, Meaningful Use
Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Brian Levy, M.D., will discuss vendor readiness for ICD-10 during the ICD-10 Forum, presented by HIMSS Media. The session, "How to Identify Vendor Benchmarks and Timelines for Readiness," will take place on June 17 from 11-11:45 a.m. EDT at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington D.C.
ICD-10, which impacts systems across the healthcare enterprise, presents a unique challenge because it intersects with several key Meaningful Use criteria. To meet the compliance needs of healthcare provider and payer clients, vendors must focus on building ICD-10 functionality in preparation for 2014 releases as well to address Meaningful Use Stage 2 and beyond. This is particularly true for EMR vendors, which are grappling with supporting documentation requirements for both Meaningful Use and ICD-10-CM within the same workflow.
"Specifically, clinicians will be required to record their problem lists using SNOMED CT. They expect their EMRs to support the ability to generate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes from entries in the problem list and vice-versa," said Dr. Levy, senior vice president and chief medical officer, Health Language, Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. "Further, additional information is often required to submit a specific, billable ICD-10-CM code. The EMR can facilitate the documentation of these required elements and, as a result, the revenue cycle process."
The ICD-10 Forum will provide attendees with testing information, best practices, risk mitigation education and vital networking opportunities designed to help CIOs, IT directors and other healthcare leaders guide their organizations to ICD-10 compliance by the October 2014 deadline.
