Students are becoming addicted to their smartphones to the extent that almost nine out of 10 18 to 24-year-olds in the UK reach for their phone within 15 minutes of getting up every day.
That's one of the outstanding facts included in a new infographic which has been compiled by TheSnugg.com, a Bolton-based seller of a huge range of mobile phone and compact computer protective covers.
The graphic, which can be seen on The Snugg's blog, brings together a host of fascinating findings from various sources about the relationship between young people and their smartphones, including that:
A student logs on to Facebook an average of 13.8 times a day
Music or video are the most common purchases by people in this age group, with nearly one in three of them using their mobiles or a tablet for the purpose
But plenty more nearly eight out of 10 have used their mobile device for accessing academic services and information, which nearly nine out of 10, or 88 per cent, say surfing the web is one of their main activities
About six out of 10 students use their smartphones to find useful local information, including store opening times (62 per cent) and directions to the shop (59 per cent), and:
Students are using their smartphones or tablets to help them be savvy shoppers, with a majority 55 per cent researching information about products they are interesting in buying, and just over a quarter (27 per cent) carrying out price comparisons to help them make their funds stretch as far as possible.
"As they have grown up amidst a mass of technology, we here at The Snugg aren't surprised by findings which show just how attached students have become to their mobiles," said Les Yates, marketing manager for TheSnugg.com
"But equally importantly, they also demonstrate that, given their hectic lives and the way in which their phones are instrumental in helping them organise it, students need to invest a modest amount to keep their phone and other portable devices protected.
