Cavium Joins Red Hat Partner Early Access Program

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Cavium, Inc., (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for enterprise, data center, cloud, wired and wireless networking announced today that it has joined the Red Hat ARM Partner Early Access Program (PEAP). This collaboration will directly benefit Cavium partners and customers by enabling access to Red Hat software, documentation and tools for ThunderXTM.

Cavium, Inc. Logo

Cavium and Red Hat have collaborated together on many critical standards of the evolving ARM server software ecosystem. This collaboration has included joint participation in defining ARMv8 industry standards such as the Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) specification and working together as members of the Linaro Enterprise Group to define open source software support for the ARM ecosystem, including the ThunderX Workload Optimized processor family. ThunderX is fully compliant with the SBSA specification and supports UEFI along with other core server software standards. Cavium has also independently completed successful testing of Red Hat software on the ThunderX SDK.

ThunderX delivers many unique and differentiated capabilities to the ARMv8 server market including support for 48 cores in a single SoC with GICV3, cache coherent dual socket support using Cavium Coherent Processor Interconnect (CCPI'), and integrated hardware accelerators for security, storage, networking and virtualization applications. Server systems that combine a singular stable 64-bit ARM server software platform with ThunderX, like that planned for development as part of the Red Hat ARM PEAP, are designed to enable the enterprise volume server market for ARMv8.

"We are pleased to include Cavium in the Red Hat ARM Partner Early Access Program, as they have showed a strong commitment to not only driving the 64-bit ARM ecosystem but also to the development and adoption of common standards within it," said Mike Werner, senior director, ISV and Developer Ecosystems, Red Hat. "By collaborating with our participating partners, like Cavium, on further innovation, standardization and productization, we can help facilitate a partner-driven 64-bit ARM server software platform based upon Red Hat technologies."

"Cavium is excited to expand our collaboration with Red Hat and continue to accelerate the ThunderX software ecosystem. This next step in our collaboration aims to help ThunderX to support the latest server industry standards while also providing the most optimal software for our customers across the data center and cloud infrastructure," said Larry Wikelius, Director Thunder Ecosystems and Partner Enablement at Cavium. "Pairing ThunderX with Red Hat software, documentation and tools will offer faster and easier integration of ThunderX into enterprise environments in the future."

The ThunderX product family provides the best in class 64-bit ARMv8 data center and cloud processors, which we believe will offer an unprecedented level of integration and industry leading ARMv8 SoC performance. With high performance custom cores, single and dual socket configurations, high memory bandwidth, large memory capacity, integrated hardware accelerators, fully virtualized core and IO, scalable Ethernet fabric and feature rich I/O's ThunderX enables best in class performance per dollar and performance per watt. The ThunderX' family includes multiple workload optimized SKUs that enable servers and appliances that are optimized for compute, storage, network and secure compute workloads in the cloud. The ThunderX processor family is fully compliant with ARMv8 architecture specifications as well as ARM's SBSA.
