DEARBORN (dpa-AFX) - Ford Motor Co. (F) said Wednesday that it issued a safety recall for 204,448 2007-2008 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles in corrosion states and provinces in North America for possible corrosion under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted to the vehicle.
This condition may result in a fuel odor, fuel leak or potentially a check engine light. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Ford said it is aware of one fire that may be related to this condition, with no injuries and no accidents.
According to the company, Affected vehicles include certain 2007-2008 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles built at Oakville Assembly, from June 15, 2006 to September 22, 2008. Ford is aware of 186,024 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, and 18,424 vehicles in Canada.
Affected vehicles include those that are currently registered or were originally sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as in the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
The company noted that dealers will inspect the fuel tank and either replace or repair it at no cost to the customer.
